Holly's Favorite Part of Mesa Verde

Wild horses! As we were pulling out of the visitor's center to drive to Spruce Treehouse, I noticed something moving in the Pinon pines off to the right. When I pulled off to the side we saw these beautiful wild horses resting in the shade of a large single-berry juniper. The colt was laying down, but he hopped up when he saw us. We saw them again later when we were leaving.

Now it's time for me to get up on my soapbox for a minute. I've already mentioned an apparent lack of courtesy and hospitality out here. Well, it only takes one New Yorker to make everybody else look like Emily Post. The ranger that Avery and Erin had to turn their Junior Ranger worksheets into today was less than bubbly when dealing with the kids. It was obvious they were scared of him and he did nothing to dissuade them from feeling that way. In short, he was a real jerk.

Later, while backing up in the parking lot I heard a horn honk. Of course, I stopped immediately and checked my mirrors. I couldn't see anything behind me. Then I saw a car come out from behind me and pull up beside me. It was Ranger Jerkweed. Apparently, he has never driven behind a larger vehicle because he was so close to my bumper there's no way I could have seen him back there. Then, he stops behind me and gives me a dirty look like I did something wrong!? As he drove off I saw exactly what his problem was...New York license plates!
