Checkerboard Mesa - Zion NP

We are back home now, and I promised to update the blog to complete our trip. I believe my last entry was after our hike up the Narrows in Zion National Park. When we left Zion the next morning, we drove out of the East side of the park heading toward the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The East side of Zion is completely different than the valley where we hiked and camped the day before. The main reason for the difference is the elevation change. When you leave Zion going east you climb a couple thousand feet in elevation as you leave the canyon. You also drive through a mile long tunnel drilled through the sandstone mountainside. There are also windows carved out of the tunnel along the way which enable you to see some spectacular views of the canyon and mountains surrounding Zion. This place is definitely in my top 5 National Parks that I've visited thus far.
